Flip Books Return in Celebration of Nostalgic 123rd Anniversary

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y., May 9 /PRNewswire/ — Flippies, a New York based manufacturer of custom flip books, has brought back, and even improved upon, the old-time animated flip book in celebration of the invention’s 123rd anniversary this month.
Recognized as one of the earliest forms of interactive multimedia, flip books were first patented in the U.S. on May 16, 1882 by Henry Van Hovenbergh of Elizabeth, New Jersey. The first flip books consisted of simple drawings stacked in sequential stages of movement with a single staple binding. When the pages were flipped, they would create the optical illusion of motion.
Flip books were then popularized in the early 1900’s by the Cracker Jack Company who gave them away as free in-pack prizes. Other marketers soon followed suit, including manufacturers of breakfast cereals, bubble gum, cigarettes, automobiles and snack foods. “In this age of high tech interactive multimedia, the simplicity of flip books is not only refreshing, but its illusion is even more captivating than ever,” said Jeffrey Kay, President of Flippies. “Creative marketers are, once again, beginning to use flip books as interactive brochures and unique giveaway items for promotions, trade shows, events and other marketing activities.”
Flippies has recently reengineered the original flip book concept to create the most engaging, entertaining flip book experience ever. They’ve also created a patent pending process to easily create flip books from live-action or animated video footage. The end result is a high quality, perfect bound, printed flip book that plays back crystal clear clips of full motion video with a simple flip of a thumb. “If he were still alive today, Henry Van Hovenbergh would be proud of Flippies’ achievements in taking his original flip book concept to a whole new level of sophistication,” said Kay. Companies or individuals interested in creating their own custom flip books can visit Flippies online at www.flippies.com for more information.
